Wow. There are some sharp cookies here! Good work on the deduction front! Yep, I was on one of the Scaras’ tracks. It’s ace, but I’m already a fan of the band (who I first met at a gig when someone introduced me because I was wearing a Cardiacs T-Shirt. THE VERY SAME ONE I AM WEARING NOW *cue Twilight Zone theme…* but that’s a coincidence. And I do have more than one T-shirt. Honestly….) so I may be slightly biased.
Anyway, Scaras were the support at one of the Astoria shows a few years back, so some of you may be aware of them. The other track I’ve heard is indeed Eureka Machines, another really cool band, in a more Wildhearts-meets-ELO type vibe. Chris (singer) is guitarist in Sisters of Mercy for anyone whose bag that is.
Bic is organising it from what I understand, and you’ll be delighted to hear that you’ll be spared a Loqui submission! I believe it’s pretty much done though in terms of submissions, I think the deadline was a couple of weeks ago. I’m seeing Steve (Scaras) tonight so I’ll see what it’s OK to mention publically.
For those with reservations, I completely understand, but I think it comes down to people’s views on covers as a concept in general. Personally I love ‘em. I think half of the fun of great music is seeing what you can do with it to take it in a different direction. For those who have seen Tim solo over the years he effectively covers his own material by presenting it very different acoustically than it is with the band. Bodysbad strikes me as a particularly fine example from memory. But only my opinion of course, and there’s obviously no right or wrong with such things.
