Well what can I say about that gig that hasn't already been said? A fair bit as it happens, since nobody's said anything yet.
Crayola Lectern was as funny and heart-warming and charming as at the Brunswick, but with an extra standup comedy attempt from Chris and Jon, something to do with gaffa tape, I wasn't completely sure. It made me laugh though. Sameish setlist as at the Brunswick but it seemed tighter, more together, better practised. Really excellent.
Then Bill who, like Chris from CL, was suffering from a bit of a coldy so interspersed his singing songs with a few instrumentals while he caught his breath. Was initially disappointed that there was neither a Dug nor a Larcombe, and that it was just Bill on his lonesome, but that went away very quickly. Didn't really catch some of the song names, and I'm not terribly au fait with some of the obscure older stuff, but songs by Lake Of Puppies, and old Mr&Mrsetc songs went down a treat. First class rendition of Fiery Pyre was also a crowd-pleaser, although once again nothing off Briny Hooves.
Bill was joined on stage a few times by the pork-pie-hat clad Jon Poole including a stirring rendition of Hymn as a set-closer, and earlier in the proceedings a quite baffling version of Too Many Irons In The Fire - with a super-secret special guest vocalist!
Another one of those gigs where you feel special, part of a big lovely family of people all tapping their noses knowingly, like a secret club. Like Cardiacs freemasonry.
Thanks to Chris, Jon, Bill and Al for a top class evening.
My girlfriend said I was 'very drunk' when I got home.
